Meet Your Pilates Pro: Nancy Dickson
Hi, my name is Nancy and I teach private and well as semi-private Pilates sessions at Pilates on the Point.
I have over 30 years of experience as a physical therapist with a specialty in medical rehabilitation. I obtained a B.S. Degree from University of Southern California, a Pilates certification at “On Center Conditioning” in Newport Beach, and in 2000, I founded “Pilates on the Point,” a private Pilates studio in Dana Point in Southern California.
I was profoundly moved and inspired by the methodology that Joseph Pilates developed because it is the perfect adjunct to Physical Therapy. It treats the whole body instead of just focusing on an injured joint or strained muscle groups.
I love Pilates because it helps me attain and maintain a uniformly developed body as well as a sound mind. This then enables me to hike, bike ride, and perform tasks of daily living without any pain. I helped people greatly while being a Physical Therapist, whether it was a sprain, orthopedic or neurologic issue, but Pilates takes it a step further because the whole body is involved in becoming stronger not just the injured part. After doing Pilates for about six months, the mind is influential in keeping the body “in-time”.
My clients have come to me with injuries of varying degrees, from continuous back problems to neurological disorders, and they have been able to return to a life without pain with increased control of proper muscle activation.
The real reward of my work in Pilates is seeing someone walk out of my studio without pain.
