A reformer is the basic piece of Pilates equipment and it is quite versatile in the way it can be used to work the entire body. It provides resistance which is effective at strengthening muscles by both lengthening and shortening. Sometimes the lighter the spring, the harder the exercise and the more the body has to work to hold the position. Hats why the term, “full body integration” pertains to Pilates and explains the methodology.
